If you have an Alienware laptop, you’re probably familiar with the company’s Graphics Amplifier.
This external device allows you to connect an external graphics card to your laptop, which can give you a performance boost for gaming or other demanding tasks.
But what if you don’t have an Alienware laptop? Can you still use a Graphics Amplifier?
It turns out that you can. Alienware’s Graphics Amplifier just comes with a proprietary connector for connecting to your laptop, but the technology behind it is actually fairly simple.
If you’re willing to buy the right adapter and hunt down some free software, you can use an external graphics card with any laptop. Here’s how:
How To Use Alienware Graphics Amplifier?
1. Buy an adapter
If your laptop doesn’t have an ExpressCard slot (the port that the Graphics Amplifier uses), you’ll need to buy an adapter.
You can find adapters on Amazon or other online retailers, and they typically cost around $30.
2. Download and install the software
You’ll need to download and install two programs in order to use your Alienware Graphics Amplifier with another laptop.
The first is an app called PowerDesk, which has a free trial but limits you to 30 minutes of use a day.
The second is a piece of hardware-specific software from the graphics card manufacturer that will allow your computer to recognize how best to use the graphics card.
The Alienware Graphics Amplifier is a great way to enjoy the latest games on your laptop, but what if you don’t have Alienware?
That doesn’t matter. You can still use it with any Laptop, PC, or Mac as long as they are equipped with a Thunderbolt 3 port and compatible graphics card.
All you need is one of these cables for HDMI, DVI-D, DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort or USB-C that will connect from the gaming desktop to your laptop.
